U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Dauntless made its way back to homeport in Galveston, Texas, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday and beginning of the winter holiday season. The crew has just completed its bi-annual command assessment of readiness and training (CART) and tailored ship’s training availability (TSTA) cycle, successfully passing each objective with an overall score of 96 percent, in contention for the operational excellence award known as the “Battle E”, for the cutter. The categories assessed covered anti-terrorism/force protection, communications, damage control, electronic warfare, engineering and seamanship. This success exemplified the hard work and tireless determination of the entire crew demonstrated over the last month in Mayport, Florida.

The training teams also worked side-by-side with the afloat training group to ensure overall success during the evaluation. Their devotion to provide all the necessary preparation helped to ensure the scores achieved by the crew of the Dauntless.

“The Dauntless has truly upheld her mantra as a training ship with an operational mission”, said Lt. Cmdr. Thomas C. Rodzewicz, Dauntless executive officer. “The preparation [for TSTA] began prior to my arrival, and I cannot be more proud of the men and women who make up the crew. The high level of performance and constant drive to improve makes me proud to call myself a Dauntless sailor.”

Looking into the near future, the Dauntless’s crew will shift their focus to the cutter’s 50th year of service anniversary in January 2018 and the upcoming homeport shift to Pensacola, Florida, next summer. This in-port period will allow preparations to carry on, ensuring a seamless transition as the Dauntless moves after 24 years being homeported at Sector Field Office Galveston.
